Bwin-Party CEO Detained by Belgian Authorities

13 November 2012

The news reached us through several Twitter accounts, saying that the Co-CEO of Bwin-Party was detained by Belgian authorities.
The official statement by the company was almost immediate:

"In response to press reports this afternoon, the Group can confirm that Norbert Teufelberger, Co-CEO, was requested to attend an interview with the Belgium authorities. He complied voluntarily with this request and is co-operating fully with the authorities. We will issue further details in due course"

It’s not yet know the exact reasons for his arrest but it looks like it is due to the continued online presence in Belgium of bwin.party without a gaming license to operate in that country.

We remind you that the domain bwin.com was included last May on a blacklist issued by the Belgian authorities as part of a series of measures which, in addition to blocking the websites in this blacklist by part of the internet service providers (ISPs), can also see users face fines for playing at unlicensed sites.
