Norbert Teufelberger released by Belgian authorities

14 November 2012

Arrested by Belgian police yesterday at lunchtime, and released after questioning a few hours later. The reason for the detention is confirmed to be due to his business activities in that country. At 18pm was released on condition that before December 17 present himself again to respond to a series of questions regarding the legality of the company's operations in the country.

As we mention on yesterday’s news bwin.party is operating without a license in Belgium and therefore is in the regulators game compliance blacklist. The company has tried to save the blocking by ISPs using parallel domains, as www2.bwin.com. But that also motivated a legal battle against the Gaming Commission alleging that its legislation is contrary to the Belgian constitution and laws of the European Union. For now, the demand has been rejected in first instance and things are looking pretty bad. Chances are that bwin.party have to pay a huge fine and stop operating "illegally" in Belgium.
