Online Poker traffic went down 18% last year

01 July 2012

According to a study made by the specialized portal, global online traffic in the last 12 months was reduced by 18%.

Much of the blame for this big fall was the closures of two of the biggest online poker rooms in the world: Full TiltPoker and Ultimate Bet Poker, both closed in the "Black Friday" wipeout.

Recent weeks, are being "hard" as far as the online player traffic is concerned. Pokerscout reports 6 consecutive weeks in which the player traffic has been reduced, the last report comes at a loss of 0.9%.

In Italy, as a counterpoint, the numbers are more positive than in the rest of the world. Last May, gross revenue fell about 1%, generating 18 million Euros, a very positive number if we take in account the 26% drop that Italy had in the first quarter of the year. Despite this rally last months, this figure represents the month with less traffic since the Italian market became regulated in July 2011.

Appart from this drop in online traffic, overall, not all rooms are seeing their numbers decrease. For example,
888poker has increased in 16% player acquisition, while PokerStars continues to be the room that brings a greater number of players, remaining as the largest poker room in the world.
