Phil Helmuth

You can hate him or love him, but Phil Hellmuth has a legion of fans thanks to his flamboyant style of play and solid performance in any tournament. It is known to be a player who can not sit still for a long time and likes to tease his opponents.

Phil Hellmuth was born in Madison, Wisconsin with four brothers and sisters. Phil attended the University of Wisconsin, where he had his first contact with poker. His fascination with the game was obvious, Phil participated in tournaments and duels several times a week. He perfected his skills and increases his limits for tournaments with $100 buy-in. Even played against his teachers who tried to defeat him morally, but Phil’s young mind and decided attitude did not let that happen. He manages to pay his student loans and even managed to build a bankroll that exceeded $ 20,000 even before graduating.

Phil tried his luck and visited Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the real world of game became much more difficult than expected. In some weeks, he lost all his money in Backgammon, dices and other casino games. His determination to push his skills to a higher level nursed his fascination with poker, so went back to school and built a new even higher bankroll.

Phil returned to Vegas with his confidence high and mind focused on success. This time could not make mistakes to further increase his bankroll. The success led to turning professional, he left school and devoted himself to his new dreams. Unfortunately his parents did not approve of this decision by Phil and his confidence disappeared. However, he continued to fight for his goals, and entered the World Series of Poker where he managed a 5th place in a 7 card stud tournament. In 1988, Phil got a good result finishing the Main Event World Series of Poker in the 33rd position.

The success at the WSOP was all the young Phil Hellmuth needed. He was ready to enter a final table and prove that he was the true champion. In 1989, Phil entered the poker history by defeating the title holder of the previous year, a spectacular Johnny Chan heads-up. This victory opened the doors of the Hall of Fame as the youngest player ever to win a WSOP event to the height. Phil's father followed all tournament from table to table, until the end. The two met and the father finally accepted his son's choices.

Since 1989, Phil won a total of 11 WSOP bracelets and has more than 50 cashes. Today, Phil lives with his wife and two children in California. Besides playing poker, Phil participates in various activities to promote the game.
