Offshore casino license transferred to Delta Corp floating hotel by Goa government

23 June 2015

Lakmikant Parsekar in a significant move has transferred licenses of offshore casinos held previously by Casino Caravela to Deltin MV Royal Flotal. The home department of Goa has granted an approval in-principle to the Delta Corp to operate vessels refurbished under the Deltin Royal Flotal following an agreement that the floating casino will move position from the River Mandovi. Compliances and permissions from Goa state pollution board,  directorate of food and drugs administration etc have been furnished by the company to the State departments.

A further request from the Deltin group has been sent to the home department to allow the casino to be stationed and functioning at the River Mandovi until a feasible location has been identified.  The government is also considering providing license to four other casinos on land. Civil society, sections of the community and the opposition along with the media do not concur with the decision and have slammed the BJP government’s double standards in discouraging casinos . Michael Lobo, MLA, BJP has been vocal in opposing the move stating that he was not in agreement with the government’s move to allow new casinos.

Parsekar, Chief Minster, Goa has not confirmed or denied the decision regarding the proposal to grant onshore casinos additional operating licenses but only stated that new offshore licenses will not be available to floating casinos. The appointment of an independent Gaming Commission to monitor the existing floating casinos or the long-pending plan to shift the floating casinos out of the River Mandovi in line with Government’s previous stand have also been left unaddressed.
