Ray Bitar out on bail

10 July 2012

Judge Paul EngelmayerAfter one week in prison, Ray Bitar saw Judge Paul Engelmayer accept release him on bail in the amount of $2.5 Millions.

Initially Judge Engelmayer (pictured on the right) preferred to pass the decision to Judge Lewis Kaplan who is judging the defendants in the Black Friday indictments, however, to avoid any possible suspicion, Judge Kaplan decided not to take over the decision since before he took place as a Judge at the DOJ he was a partner in the law firm that now defends the CEO of Full Tilt.

Therefore, after the refusal of Kaplan, judge Engelmayer finally decided yesterday to accept the payment of $2.5 Million Bail and release Ray Bitar from confinement. Judge Engelmayer seized Bitar’s passport and advised him to travel only between California (His residence) and New York (headquarters of DOJ).
