Skrill buys Paysafecard

01 July 2012

Skrill (formerly Moneybookers) informed through a press release and the Austrian company Paysafecard, have reached an agreement whereby Skrill acquires 100% of the assets from the company based in Vienna, for the total amount of 140 million Euros.

To Skrill, who earlier this year began a campaign for brand makeover, this is the biggest step forward since the company has unveiled its new name. The deal will close when the regulatory authorities in the UK and Austria give their approval, but there should be no obstacle to prevent it.

Following this acquisition, Skrillstaff now exceeds 700 employees, if we add the 150 of Paysafecard to the 560 from Skrill had already before the operation.

Like this, Skrill guarantees the access to 450.000 establishments where is possible to anyone to convert their cash into e-money in the form of vouchers without having to provide their bank or credit card details, and enabling users to redeem these vouchers in thousands of online retailers.

Skrill CEO, Siegfried Heimgaertner said:
The combined entity will offer a unique proposition in the payments market combining our leading digital wallet with the sophisticated POS and cash network of Paysafecard. It enhances our product portfolio significantly, offering payment and money transfer options for both on and off-line channels.”

At the moment it is unknown whether the two companies will continue to work separately as at present. For this purpose, relevant authorities need to give their final "OK".

While the "OK" comes and goes, we keep both payment methods in our recommended
Payment Methods section.
